Online international sale of jewelry

virendra singh

Dear sir,

What is the liability of tax on online international sale of jewelry.as someone is the manufacturer of stone jewelry.

Kindly revert.

VAT treatment of jewelry sales: domestic versus export distinction governs tax liability and applicable VAT rates. Tax liability for online sales of jewellery depends on whether the sale is domestic or export and on product classification; under the RVAT Act goods classified as precious metals/jewellery sold within India may attract VAT/CST at the concessional rate, while artificial jewellery is taxable under the residuary VAT schedule at the peak rate, and the export/domestic distinction must be clarified. Dear Virendra,

Please check the RVAT Act and Rules made thereunder in this regard. If goods of precious metals/Jewellery are being sold within India then it may attract 1% VAT/CST. If such Jewellery is Artificial then rate of VAT would fall under Residuary VAT Schedule and peak rate would be applicable on such sales.
