Excise Registration No

Dinesh Tyagi

Dear All,

Can any one tell me that what is the difference between ECC no

AAACK00952XD001 and AAACK00952ED001

or

AAACK000952XM001 and AAACK00952EM001.

I have read the following about the ECC No.

ECC - Excise Control Code

Excise Control Code number is a link PAN based 15 digit alpha numeric registration number given to all the Central Excise Assesses under Central Excise Act. It is used to identify each assessee who is liable to pay excise duty to Government of India.

Format of ECC Number
It is a PAN based 15 digit alpha numeric numbers. The first 10 digits of the code is the same as the PAN number of the concerned person to whom the Excise Control Code is to be allotted. The next 2 characters are alphabets which could be:

XM - Central Excise Manufacturer
XD - Registered Dealer

The Last three characters could be 001, 002 or 003 depending on the number of registered factory, dealer's premise or warehouse.

Understanding Excise Control Code: No Difference Between Codes Ending in 'XD', 'ED', 'XM', 'EM' Explained. A forum participant inquired about the difference between two types of Excise Control Code (ECC) numbers, specifically those ending in 'XD' and 'ED,' and 'XM' and 'EM.' The ECC is a PAN-based 15-digit alphanumeric registration number for Central Excise assessees in India. A respondent stated there is no difference between the codes. The original poster questioned the change in nomenclature, citing an example of a company whose ECC number changed from 'XD004' to 'ED004,' and asked if it relates to multinational subsidiaries trading in India.
