Participant Queries Tariff Item Change for MEIS Scheme Benefits; Expert Advises Caution and Consultation with DGFT. A participant raised a query about changing their tariff item in the excise return to align with the MEIS Scheme benefits under the new foreign trade policy. They expressed concern over the consequences of such a change. An expert advised against altering the tariff heading solely for export promotion benefits without modifying the finished goods' constituents, suggesting consulting with the DGFT and Central Excise Commissioner for clarification. The participant clarified that they intend to change only the last four digits of the tariff item, not the main chapter heading. (AI Summary)
