Whether CST is changed to 1% from 1st April 2009

Central Sales Tax Rate Remains at 2% Until Official Notification Announcing Reduction to 1% is Issued A discussion on a forum addressed whether the Central Sales Tax (CST) rate was reduced to 1% from April 1, 2009. One participant noted that the previous deadline in 2008 to reduce CST from 3% to 2% was missed, and speculated that the rate might change after the elections when a new government is in place. Another participant confirmed that until the central government officially notifies a 1% rate, the applicable CST rate remains at 2%. A third participant advised waiting for the election results for any updates. (AI Summary)

If you remember, the deadline of 1st April 2008 was missed to reduce the Central sales tax rate (CST) from 3% to 2%. At that time the central government was working in usual course without any disturbance. This time, due to elections, we may wish that CST rates would be reduced when the new government will take the charge and announce its policies.
