During C.Excise rates amendment, Excise duty has revised from 12% to 12.5% and Higher Education Cess and Eductaion Cess withdrawn . Now , For imports , Custom duty : No change, CVD will be in line with Excise duty i.e.12.5% in place of 12% earlier. But , there is no clarification on Education Cess and Higher education cess on imports .

We want to know that whether it will be applicable on import.(Yes/No) . If yes , Amount for calculation for this 2% and 1%.

Regards,

BM Goyal

Education and Higher Education Cess Still Applicable on Imports Post Excise Duty Amendment from 12% to 12.5% A query was raised regarding the applicability of Education Cess and Higher Education Cess on imports following an amendment in excise duty rates from 12% to 12.5%, which saw the withdrawal of these cesses on excise duty. The concern was whether these cesses would still apply to imports, and if so, the calculation basis for the 2% and 1% rates. Two responses confirmed that the status quo remains, indicating that the cesses continue to apply to imports. (AI Summary)
