New Budget Update: Paper Industry to Charge Only 6% Excise from March 1, 2015; Cesses Removed per Notification 14/2015. An individual inquired about the application of education cess and secondary and higher education cess for the paper industry following changes in the new budget. They mentioned currently charging 6% basic excise, 2% paper cess, 2% education cess, and 1% secondary and higher education cess, plus local taxes. A respondent advised that from March 1, 2015, only a 6% charge applies, as per notification 14/2015, indicating that the previous cesses are no longer applicable. (AI Summary)
