Cenvat credit on Plate

Tejas Gandhi

Dear sir,

We bought the material Steel Plate which is used in fabrication - maintenance yard. Is it eligible for take cenvat credit or not ?

Cenvat credit on steel plates for maintenance yards debated; not considered capital goods or inputs under current rules. An individual inquired about the eligibility of claiming Cenvat credit on steel plates used in a fabrication maintenance yard. One respondent mentioned that while there are Supreme Court judgments allowing Cenvat credit for steel plates used in fabrication, extending this to maintenance yards might be excessive and credit may not be granted. Another respondent agreed, adding that since the yard does not qualify as capital goods or inputs, Cenvat credit is not applicable. (AI Summary)
