Claim Housing Loan Interest and HRA Exemption When Living in Rented House Due to Work An individual inquired about claiming interest on a housing loan while living in a rented house due to employment in a different location. The response clarified that an employee can claim both housing loan interest and House Rent Allowance (HRA) exemption if the owned house is not occupied because of employment elsewhere. The individual can provide a self-declaration to their employer to claim housing loan interest up to Rs. 1,50,000, stating that the property was not let out or benefited from during the specified period, and that they reside in a rented house due to employment.
