Service tax code

S.C. WADHWA

Dear Expert,

We have to pay first instalment of 50 percent service tax amount under VCES before 31.12.13.  Please advise which codes are to be filled up in service tax challan.  Deptt officer says that 50 percent amount under VCES- 1st instalment to be filled up and on the other side one senior advocate says normal codes of services tax are to be filled up.

Please give your opinion on this matter.

Regards,

Choosing Correct Service Tax Codes for VCES Payments: Use VCES-specific Code or Regular Service Tax Codes? A discussion on a forum involves a query about the appropriate service tax codes to use when paying the first installment of 50 percent under the Voluntary Compliance Encouragement Scheme (VCES) by the deadline of December 31, 2013. A department officer suggests using the VCES-specific code, while a senior advocate advises using normal service tax codes. Two responses are provided: one suggests using the code allotted to the 120 service for VCES payments, and another mentions using service tax code 1089 for all taxable services under the reverse charge, with a query about the code for the remaining balance and return filing formalities.
