Service tax code

S.C. WADHWA

Dear Expert,

We have to pay first instalment of 50 percent service tax amount under VCES before 31.12.13.  Please advise which codes are to be filled up in service tax challan.  Deptt officer says that 50 percent amount under VCES- 1st instalment to be filled up and on the other side one senior advocate says normal codes of services tax are to be filled up.

Please give your opinion on this matter.

Regards,

Service tax challan coding: whether VCES instalments require aggregate or service specific codes for proper reporting. Whether the first instalment payment under the Voluntary Compliance Encouragement Scheme should use a single aggregate challan code or service-specific codes is questioned: advisors suggested using the code for service 120, the general code 1089 for all taxable services, or normal service codes. The core operational issue is whether the same code must be used for the balance instalment and how instalment payments under reverse charge or specific services should be reported on challans and amended returns under VCES. Code allotted to the 120 service would be used for payment of service tax under VCES.

Ganeshan Kalyani on Jun 24, 2014

Respected Seniors,

A service receiver paid 50 percent service tax under reverse charge under VCES scheme under service tax code 1089 (all taxable service). Further ST-2 amended with various services. Now the balance 50 percent is payable. The concern is whether the same code to be used or code for individual services. All through some light on return filing formality for period under VCES.
