Warehousing of industrial chemicals in bonded warehouses permitted subject to safety approvals and Customs compliance.
Para 2.36(a) of the Foreign Trade Policy is clarified to permit warehousing of industrial chemicals in public and private bonded warehouses, reversing a blanket exclusion that targeted unregulated storage of hazardous waste and chemicals. Permission is conditional: facilities must meet all applicable domestic laws and safety rules for storage and handling; competent customs authorities must approve or licence the facility and ensure compliance; the chemicals must satisfy Import and Export Policy requirements and relevant Customs Act provisions; and all other Paragraph 2.36 requirements must be observed. The clarification aims to enable trade continuity while retaining regulatory controls.
