SWAGAT-FI classification for foreign portfolio and venture investors: streamlined registration, unified accounts, resident LRS contributions capped 50%, ten-year KYC
Introduces the 'SWAGAT-FI' classification for FPIs/FVCIs, specifying eligible categories (government-related investors, regulated public retail mutual funds operating as blind pools, regulated insurance companies investing own funds without segregated portfolios, and regulated pension funds), with the operative effect that such entities qualify for streamlined registration and unified account treatment. Exempts SWAGAT-FI FPIs from the resident-contributor prohibition subject to the operative condition that resident Indian contributions be routed through RBI's LRS and into global funds with India exposure below 50%. Extends registration renewal and KYC cycles for SWAGAT-FI to ten years and mandates depositories to provide a single unified accounting/investing experience, effective June 1, 2026.
