New Guidelines: Taxpayers to Pay Additional Fees for Prosecution Expenses Under Income-tax Act 1961 Compounding Offences.
The circular outlines that under the current guidelines for compounding offences under the Income-tax Act 1961, taxpayers only pay compounding and litigation fees, without covering prosecution establishment expenses. To address this, the Board has decided to charge additional fees to compensate for departmental efforts. The new prosecution establishment expenses are set at different rates depending on the amount involved: Rs. 5,000 for amounts up to Rs. 50,000, Rs. 10,000 for amounts between Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 1 lakh, Rs. 15,000 for amounts between Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 5 lakhs, and Rs. 20,000 for amounts above Rs. 5 lakhs.
