Mandatory Warehousing Dropped for EOUs, STPIs, EHTPs; Digital Records Required as of Aug 13, 2016.
The circular announces the removal of mandatory warehousing requirements for Export Oriented Units (EOUs), Software Technology Parks (STPIs), Electronics Hardware Technology Parks (EHTPs), and similar units, effective from August 13, 2016. This change, aimed at enhancing the ease of doing business, eliminates the need for these units to comply with warehousing provisions under the Customs Act, 1962. Instead, units must maintain digital records of imported goods using Form A, ensuring data accuracy and availability for verification. The re-warehousing certificate procedure is replaced with a system involving procurement certificates and jurisdictional office reconciliation. Inter-unit transfers will follow a revised procedure involving commercial documentation.
