Businesses Can Use Automatic Numbering for Invoices u/r 52A & 57GG, Handwritten Invoices Not Accepted.
The circular addresses challenges faced by businesses in printing running serial numbers on invoices as required by Rule 52A and Rule 57GG of the Central Excise Rules, 1944. It acknowledges that serial numbers are often added using automatic numbering machines rather than being pre-printed. To alleviate these difficulties, the Board permits the use of automatic numbering machines for serial numbers, provided they are applied to invoice books before use. Hand-written or rubber-stamped invoices are not acceptable. These instructions also apply to computer-generated invoices, where preprinting serial numbers is unnecessary. Field formations are advised accordingly.
