New Customs Rules 2017 Assign Central Excise Duties to Customs Officers Post-GST Implementation.
The Customs (Import of Goods at Concessional Rate of Duty) Rules, 2017 have replaced the 2016 rules due to the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax, which limits Central Excise duty to a few commodities. Effective from July 1, 2017, these new rules assign duties previously performed by Central Excise officers to Customs officers. Until further notifications, Central Excise officers will continue to perform these functions. Stakeholders are encouraged to report any difficulties to the office. The transition ensures compliance with the Customs Act, 1962, without operational disruptions.
