New Customs Rule: RFID Locks Required for Goods in Bonded Warehouses Starting August 1, 2018.
The circular outlines procedures for electronic sealing and handling of goods in Customs Bonded Warehouses. It mandates the use of RFID anti-tamper one-time locks (RFID OTLs) for transporting goods to and from warehouses, replacing previous one-time locks. Importers must procure RFID OTLs from approved vendors, and warehouse licensees must provide RFID readers. Data elements such as Importer Exporter Code, RFID OTL number, and warehouse codes must be captured in a web application. The procedure is effective from August 1, 2018, with exceptions for certain types of cargo, and any issues should be reported to the Commissioner of Customs in Vijayawada.
