New Customs Circular Clarifies Classification of Solar Panels Based on Diode Type for Accurate Import Declarations in Mumbai Zone-II.
The circular from the Office of the Chief Commissioner of Customs, Mumbai Zone-II, clarifies the classification of solar panels/modules based on the type of diodes they contain. Solar panels/modules with bypass diodes are classified under CTH 8541, while those with blocking diodes, or both blocking and bypass diodes, fall under CTH 8501. Importers and stakeholders must specify the diode type when filing Bills of Entry, preferably supported by a Chartered Engineer's certificate or relevant documentation. If there is doubt about the declaration's accuracy, permission for testing may be sought. Concerns can be directed to the Commissioner of Customs.
