SEBI Ends Weekly Reporting Requirement for FIIs on Overseas Securities Lending, Maintains Ban on Synthetic Short Activities.
The circular issued by SEBI on March 29, 2011, informs all Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) through their custodians that the requirement for filing weekly reports on securities lent to entities abroad is discontinued. This decision follows a review indicating no outstanding short positions as of March 4, 2011. Despite the continued prohibition on synthetic short activities, the reporting obligation is lifted. This measure aims to protect investor interests and regulate the securities market, under the authority of relevant sections of the Securities and Exchange Board of India Act, 1992, and the Securities Contracts (Regulation) Act, 1956.
