Chennai Customs Ends Mandatory High Seas Sale Registration, Eases Import Process; Details Now in Bill of Entry.
The Chennai Customs has announced the discontinuation of the mandatory registration procedure for High Seas Sale (HSS) agreements at the Import Noting Section. This decision aims to reduce transaction costs and delays, and to streamline the process of importing goods sold on high seas. Importers and customs brokers must now ensure that all relevant HSS details are included in the Bill of Entry and produce necessary documents, such as notarized HSS contracts and invoices, during customs verification. The new procedure, effective from May 22, 2018, eliminates the need for prior HSS registration, with checks conducted by customs officers during assessment.
