Spice Exports in Gunny Bags Face DEPB Scheme Challenges Due to SION Exclusion; Provisional Assessments Await DGFT Clarification.
Trade is experiencing issues exporting spices in gunny bags under the DEPB Scheme. Currently, a 1% credit is available for certain products under the DEPB rate list, provided they meet standard input-output norms. However, the Standard Input Output Norms (SION) for spices specify only certain packing materials, excluding gunny bags. Consequently, credit under the DEPB Scheme for spices in gunny bags is not admissible. Shipping bills for goods in jute bags will be assessed provisionally, pending SION amendment or clarification from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). This notice applies to various customs locations in Mumbai.
