of <h1>New Guidelines for Selecting Special Public Prosecutors in CBEC Cases Effective March 1, 2016.</h1> The circular outlines the procedure for selecting Special Public Prosecutors (SPPs) to handle Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) cases in subordinate courts, sessions courts, and high courts. Effective from March 1, 2016, the guidelines require the Chief Commissioner to assess SPP needs and handle vacancies through advertisements. A three-member committee evaluates applicants, considering expertise in criminal matters. Initial engagement is for 18 months, renewable based on performance appraisals. The Chief Commissioner ensures equitable workload distribution, and the Ministry of Law and Justice provides additional prosecutorial support. Revised terms from 2010 remain until further updates.
