Fortnightly Excise Duty Payment Now Permitted; Daily or Consignment Basis Still Optional Under Central Excise Rules, 1944.
The circular addresses the mode of excise duty payment following amendments to the Central Excise Rules, 1944. Assessees are now permitted to discharge their duty liability on a fortnightly basis. However, if any assessee prefers to continue paying excise duty on a daily or consignment basis, they may do so. The key requirement is that the duty for the first fortnight of the month must be fully paid by the 20th of that month, and for the second fortnight by the 5th of the following month.
