Central Excise Board Updates Rule 173C: Maximum Retail Price to Be Used for Valuation u/s 4A.
The circular issued by the Central Excise Board modifies the declaration requirements under Rule 173C for commodities notified under Section 4A, following amendments in the Finance Act, 2000. Previously, the highest retail sale price across different regions had to be declared. The new amendment specifies that if multiple retail sale prices are declared, the maximum price is considered for valuation. Additionally, for different prices on packages for different areas, each price is valid for its respective area. Consequently, Note (2) in the previous declaration format is omitted, and assessees may need to file updated declarations. The trade and field formations are to be informed accordingly.
