Organic Exports Require Valid Certificate from Accredited Agencies; Regulation Effective Since October 1, 2001.
Agricultural products can be exported as 'Organic Products' only if they have a valid Organic Certificate from an accredited certifying agency. These agencies include the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Coffee Board, Spices Board, and Tea Board. This regulation, issued by the Director General of Foreign Trade, takes effect from October 1, 2001, and aims to standardize the export of certified organic products. The public notice has been superseded by a subsequent notice in 2004.
