Central Excise Board Extends Computerization Deadline for Excise Returns to April 2000 Due to Data Quality Concerns.
The Central Excise Board has decided to extend the deadline for the computerization of Central Excise returns from January 2000 to April 2000. This decision follows a review indicating that the quality of RT-12 data improved from 20.61% in July 1999 to 50.09% in November 1999, but still falls short of the 90% target necessary for transitioning from manual to electronic reporting. All Central Excise Commissionerates are instructed to prioritize capturing RT-12 data with accuracy and timeliness to meet the revised schedule. Field formations are to be informed of these changes.
