of <h1>India Ends Raw Silk Sampling for EOUs and SEZs; Requires Legal Undertaking to Prevent Duty Evasion.</h1> The circular addresses the issue of sampling raw silk imported from China by 100% Export Oriented Units (EOUs) and Special Economic Zones (SEZs). Previously, samples were taken to prevent misdeclaration of silk grade to avoid anti-dumping duties. However, EOUs are exempt from such duties, and the sampling practice caused difficulties. The Board decided to discontinue sampling, requiring EOUs to provide a Legal Undertaking (LUT) to pay duties if misuse occurs. This LUT is submitted to customs authorities at the import location and monitored by relevant officials. The same procedure applies to SEZs, with adjustments for their specific administrative setup.
