India Removes Duty Drawback Rates for Steel Forgings Due to Misuse; Exporters to Use Brand Rate per Rule 6.
The circular issued by the Department of Revenue, Government of India, addresses the misuse of duty drawback rates for non-alloy and alloy steel forgings as listed in the Drawback Schedule, 2003-2004. It has been observed that some exporters are manipulating product descriptions to gain undue benefits. Consequently, the government has decided to remove these entries from the schedule effective 1st July 2003. Exporters may now use the brand rate of duty drawback as per rule 6 of the Customs and Central Excise Duties Drawback Rules, 1995. Public notices and staff guidance orders are to be issued accordingly.
