of <h1>Customs Circular Clarifies Rules for Temporary Vehicle Imports by Tourists; Stresses Better Communication for Carnet de Passage.</h1> Customs Circular No. 13/2001-CUS, dated March 2, 2001, addresses issues related to customs claims on vehicles temporarily imported into India by tourists using carnets de passage. Vehicles can be imported for six months without customs duty, extendable by another six months. The Federation of Indian Automobile Associations highlighted problems with customs claims due to lack of communication between entry and exit points. To resolve this, customs officials are instructed to ensure proper documentation at entry and exit points and to communicate export details promptly. Field formations must be informed, and pending cases reviewed to facilitate reconciliation.
