New Guidelines on EOUs and EPZs: Jurisdiction Changes for Customs and Excise Commissioners Announced by Finance Ministry.
The circular from the Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue, addresses changes in administrative control over Export Oriented Units (EOUs) and Export Processing Zones (EPZs). It specifies that EOUs located outside municipal limits of port cities will now be managed by the jurisdictional Commissioner of Central Excise, while those within port cities will remain under the jurisdiction of the Commissioner of Customs. The existing arrangement for EPZs will continue, with the Commissioners of Customs retaining control. Future Special Economic Zones (SEZs) will also fall under the jurisdiction of the Commissioner of Customs. These instructions replace previous directives on the subject.
