Customs splits floor covering drawback rates into three categories with vigilance against synthetic-silk misdeclaration
The customs department clarified drawback rates for different types of floor coverings following rationalization of the All Industry Rate of Duty Drawback. The original category for floor coverings was split into three separate classifications: hand-knotted woollen floor coverings, hand-knotted silk floor coverings with 12% drawback rate (maximum Rs. 625 per square meter), and hand-knotted synthetic floor coverings with 10% drawback rate (maximum Rs. 175 per square meter). Due to higher benefits for silk carpets, field formations were advised to exercise vigilance to prevent misdeclaration of synthetic carpets as silk carpets to avoid unintended drawback benefits.
