Mandatory E-Payment for Customs Duty: Importers Must Pay Online for Transactions Over Rs. 1 Lakh and Accredited Clients.
The circular mandates e-payment of customs duty for importers paying one lakh rupees or more per transaction and for all Accredited Clients under the Customs Accredited Client Programme, regardless of the duty amount. Introduced in 2007, the e-payment system aims to reduce transaction costs and expedite customs clearance. The Central Board of Excise and Customs has implemented the Indian Customs EDI System (ICES1.5) and extended the e-payment facility to all ICES locations. Importers must open an internet account with designated banks to use this facility. Detailed procedures for e-payment and account setup are provided, with support available for users facing difficulties.
