Stay/Dispensation of pre-deposit The Appellate Tribunal CEGAT, Mumbai heard a case regarding waiver of duty deposit of Rs. 2.35 lakhs for precipitated silica and aluminium silicate. The duty exemption under Entry 39 of Notification 5/98 was in question, as it pertained to silicon in all forms. The tribunal decided that the scope of 'silicon' in the entry needed clarification, and asked the applicant to deposit Rs. 1 lakh within a month due to financial hardship shown in profit and loss account. Compliance was required by 21-2-2002.
