It supersedes the earlier Wealth-tax Settlement Commission (Procedure) Rules, 1987, while preserving the validity of actions already taken or omitted under those rules prior to supersession. It formally introduces the Wealth-tax Settlement Commission (Procedure) Rules, 1997, specifying that these rules shall be cited by that short title and shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Wealth-tax Official Gazette.
