Apply for a Duplicate National Savings Certificate if Lost or Damaged; Indemnity Bond Required for High-Value Certificates.
If a National Savings Certificate is lost, stolen, destroyed, mutilated, or defaced, the entitled person can apply for a duplicate at the issuing post office or another post office, which will forward the request. The application must include certificate details and circumstances of loss. A duplicate is issued upon providing an indemnity bond with sureties or a bank guarantee unless the certificate's value is Rs. 500 or less, or if the certificate is mutilated or defaced. The duplicate is equivalent to the original but requires verification for encashment at a different post office.
