The instructor at a mine rescue station must impart training in rescue and recovery work, maintain records, and inspect, test, and adjust rescue equipment and apparatus. In an emergency at a below-ground mine, the instructor must perform rescue and recovery work as assigned by the manager or the principal official present at the surface. The instructor may not leave the rescue station without prior permission and acts in charge when the superintendent is absent.
