Rescue station functions define training, emergency support, and rescue-room duties for underground mines. Rule 124 prescribes the functions of a rescue station in mines. These include initial training in rescue and recovery work, refresher training for rescue-trained persons, support in major accidents or prolonged rescue and recovery operations through its own teams and equipment, and performance of rescue room functions for below ground mines where no rescue room exists.
