Workplace air safety requires employers to minimise dust, fumes and noxious gases before workers enter confined spaces.

Employers engaged in building or other construction work must take all reasonably practicable steps to minimise the emission of gas, fumes, vapour, dust and other impurities at the workplace, and to limit employee exposure to respirable contaminants within health-safe limits. No employee may be required or permitted to enter a workplace or confined space until all practicable measures have been taken to reduce any present noxious gas, fumes, vapour or dust to permissible levels.
