of <h1>Government power to exempt workplaces from labor code during public emergencies, allowing suspension or modification of safety obligations</h1> Grants the appropriate Government power to exempt any workplace, work activity, or class thereof from all or any provisions of this Code during a public emergency, disaster, or pandemic in whole or part of India, subject to conditions and for such period as prescribed; the operative effect is that statutory safety, health or working conditions obligations may be suspended or modified for designated workplaces or activities under notification. No exemption may be made for more than one year at a time. 'Public emergency' is defined to include grave threats to security of India or any part thereof by war, external aggression or internal disturbance.
