<h1>Overtime pay rules: excess daily or weekly hours paid at double rate, only with worker consent; govt may set limits</h1> Section establishes that overtime work must be remunerated at twice the ordinary rate of wages, prescribing that overtime be calculated on a daily or weekly basis, whichever is more favourable to the worker, and applicable where a worker exceeds prescribed hours of work per day or week; operative effect: employers must pay double wages for such excess hours. It further prescribes that an employer may require overtime only with the worker's consent; operative effect: compulsory overtime without consent is prohibited. The appropriate Government may prescribe the total permissible overtime hours; operative effect: maximum overtime limits may be set by regulation.
