Social security rules limit concurrent sickness, maternity and disablement benefits and require repayment of unlawful payments.

Entitlement rules bar commutation of temporary disablement benefits except by regulation and deny sickness or temporary disablement benefits for days worked, on paid leave or strike, subject to regulations. Recipients (other than permanent disablement) must undergo and comply with prescribed medical treatment, remain in the treatment area without unauthorised departure, and submit to examinations. Concurrent receipt of sickness, maternity and temporary disablement benefits for the same period is prohibited, with an election available where multiple entitlements arise. On death, cash benefits up to death pass to a nominated person or heirs. Wrongful payments must be repaid and non cash benefit values are fixed by an authority; recoveries proceed under specified recovery provisions.
