Amendment to Article 220: Restrictions on Former High Court Judges Practicing in Courts, Except Supreme Court and Other High Courts.
Article 220 of the Constitution has been amended by the Constitution (7th Amendment) Act, 1956, to impose restrictions on the practice of permanent High Court judges after their tenure. The revised article prohibits any individual who has served as a permanent judge of a High Court from practicing or acting in any court or before any authority in India, except for the Supreme Court and other High Courts. The term 'High Court' excludes those specified in Part B of the First Schedule as it existed before the Seventh Amendment.
