New SEBI Regulations Define Specialized Investment Funds and Accredited Investors Effective April 2025
Regulation 49U under the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Mutual Funds) Regulations, 1996, defines terms related to Specialized Investment Funds. An 'Accredited Investor' is defined as per the SEBI (Alternative Investment Funds) Regulations, 2012. A 'Specialized Investment Fund' is a mutual fund as defined in the regulations, not requiring a separate trust for launching an Investment Strategy. An 'Investment Strategy' refers to a mutual fund scheme launched under this fund category. These provisions were inserted by a notification effective from April 1, 2025.
