New Amendment Requires Profitable Multi-State Co-ops to Contribute to Rehabilitation Fund for Reviving Sick Societies
The Multi-State Co-operative Societies Act, 2002, as amended in 2023, mandates the establishment of the Co-operative Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Development Fund by the Central Government. This Fund aims to revive sick multi-State co-operative societies and support development projects. Multi-State co-operative societies in profit for the last three financial years must contribute annually to this Fund, either one crore rupees or one percent of their net profits, whichever is less. A government-appointed Committee will manage the Fund, maintaining separate accounts and records, and utilize the funds to achieve the Fund's objectives.
