          <h1>Adjudicating Authority redefined; Competent Authority under the Smugglers Act to exercise Benami Act jurisdiction and powers.</h1> The Bill redefines the Adjudicating Authority, substitutes section 7 to vest adjudicatory jurisdiction in the Competent Authority under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act, 1976, consequentially omits sections 8-17 and omits clauses (b) and (c) of subsection (2) of section 68, and provides a limited extension of the time limit for passing orders under subsection (7) of section 26; the amendments take effect from the commencement date stated in the Bill.
