of <h1>Amendments to Benami Property Act: Changes to Adjudicating Authority Definition, Omission of Sections 8-17, Deadline Extension</h1> The amendments to the Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions Act, 1988, aim to modify section 2 by replacing 'appointed under' with 'referred to in' regarding the definition of Adjudicating Authority. Section 7 will be altered to designate the Competent Authority from the 1976 Act as the Adjudicating Authority. Sections 8 to 17 will be omitted, and adjustments to section 26 will extend the order-passing deadline to September 30, 2021. Clauses (b) and (c) of section 68(2) will also be omitted. These changes are effective from July 1, 2021.
