of <h1>Companies Act 2020 Amendment: Revised Penalties in Section 137 for Non-Compliance, Lowering Maximum Fines Significantly</h1> The Companies (Amendment) Act, 2020 modifies section 137 of the principal Act. It revises the penalties for non-compliance. The amendment changes the penalty from 'one thousand rupees for every day during which the failure continues but which shall not be more than ten lakh rupees' to 'ten thousand rupees and in case of continuing failure, a further penalty of one hundred rupees for each day during which such failure continues, subject to a maximum of two lakh rupees.' Additionally, penalties of 'one lakh rupees' and 'five lakh rupees' are reduced to 'ten thousand rupees' and 'fifty thousand rupees,' respectively.
