of <h1>Finance Act 2020 amends Benami Property Act: Section 9 updated for legal qualifications of adjudicating authority.</h1> The Finance Act, 2020 amends the Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions Act, 1988. Specifically, in section 9, sub-section (1), clause (b) is replaced. The new clause stipulates that the individual must either have been a member of the Indian Legal Service and held a post equivalent to Joint Secretary or be qualified for appointment as a District Judge. This amendment took effect on April 1, 2020.
