Non-repatriation investment by NRI/OCI: permits unrestricted domestic-equity and LLP capital investment while prohibiting certain sectors. NRIs and OCIs may, on a non-repatriation basis, purchase without limit equity instruments, convertible notes in startups, units of investment vehicles, and contribute to LLP capital; such investments are deemed domestic investment. Units of domestic mutual funds investing predominantly in equity may also be freely transacted. Investments are prohibited in Nidhi companies and entities engaged in agricultural or plantation activities, real estate business, construction of farm houses, or dealing in transfer of development rights. Contribution to firms or proprietary concerns is permitted except where engaged in agriculture, print media, or real estate; the Reserve Bank will specify payment and remittance conditions.
