Restriction on foreign investment: non-residents barred from investing except under statutory exceptions and regulatory permission. No person resident outside India shall make any investment in India except as provided by the Act, rules or regulations; investments held on the commencement date are deemed made under these Regulations; the Reserve Bank may, on application and for sufficient reasons, permit such investment subject to conditions it considers necessary.
