Unique identity numbers enable targeted delivery of government subsidies and services under the Aadhaar framework. The Act establishes a framework for assigning unique identity numbers to residents to enable efficient, transparent, and targeted delivery of subsidies, benefits and services; it applies throughout India and, unless otherwise provided, to offences committed outside India, while commencement of the Act or particular provisions is to be notified by the Central Government and may occur on different dates.
